Awesome route through WV from Harrisonburg VA to Elkins WV through Snowshoe WV.
Beatiful route from Elkins WV through Monterey VA to Skyline Drive.
Out through Virginia country side across the Potomac.
Back road from Dayton ohio to Marlinton WV
So, this road serves as a shortcut, of sorts, if you're coming from Brandywine (33) and wish to head north, up to Moorefield. Rather than taking the more trafficy 220, this is a nicely paved similar road that also gets you to the Moorefield area. Other than some wiggles just off of 33 this route is pretty damned straight, and so the cruiser/tourer crowd will probably be able to put their feet up on the highway pegs, for this one.CR3, if headed north, eventually turns to CR7, but nothing changes. Good road. Nice short cut. Good scenery in autumn.
Taking this road north is the better way to do it, and as such that would be to head to Mathias, WV on WV 259. You can't miss the signs for Lost River State Park. (Mathias is a tiny town.) However, if you want to take this route south then you would do so by heading south out of Moorefield, WV onto CR 7 (S Fork Rd) and looking on the right side of the road for Lost River State Park Rd signs. They're about 3 miles south out of town. You can do this road for the fun, but it's biggest asset, especially in the autumn is the scenery. You are, after all, driving a thin windy road up a mountain, no matter which way you take the road, and then you plateau on the dome for a time before winding back down the mountain. We didn't stop in the park, nor did we see any cars, but I would imagine it's very pretty. Just from driving the road which has a 55 mph speed limit on a 1.5 lane road (God bless those crazy West Virginians) it was a very pretty set of sights, particularly when looking west.Nothing but good things to say about this road despite it being a good bit lumpy and slender. For sure, keep your wits about on this road, because up and down the mountain can bite you, and the lumpiness makes it more fun in a quick car than on the motorcycle with your elbows flailing around, but either mode of transport should give you a good time, with the car being a bit less harrowing. Be sure to look west, when you can, safely, for some great views and even some wild game. (Saw 4 dear bedded down watching us go by.)I don't know anything about Lost River State Park, but I would imagine that's your 'tourism.' Other than the the only amenities are in the Moorefield area, as I don't think there's as much on the east side of the mountains.
Far be it for me to recommend slab, but what a piece of pavement this one is. This freshly built road is pure eye candy, from what I've seen between Moorefield, WV and Mount Storm, WV. Parts of the road are blown straight through mountains, parts are built of bridges that are thousands of feet up, and in many parts you can see the road a mile ahead of you...and it's not a straight path to get there. Bravo to the designers of this beauty.Fresh, new pavement that is completely flawless and much of it is less than a year, two or 3 old. Everything about this road speaks to them taking their time, doing it right and with much care.No amenities on the sides of this road. Mount Storm has pretty much nothing, either. If you want amenities you'll want to stop in Moorefield, WV or one of the bigger exits on this road.
Hilly rural route. Good fun
Pleasant little country road
nice long drive thru Suburban and some country roads to open roads
South of town over parkway and back
Amazing variety of roads, scenery, twists and turns
From afton to Meadows of Dan campground
Very fun, depending on the time of day traffic can be a little annoying. If you ride slow then traffic won't be an issue. If you ride fast there are plenty of places to cut into oncoming traffic quickly and safely to get around.
Amazing road with lots of great twisties. The seven mile stretch spanning the state line with West Virginia rivals the "Tail of the Dragon" for twisties. The road condition is mostly excellent.
This is more of a route to brag to your buddies, "I road some hair raising mountain roads and saw a bear" then " I road some sick back roads" This trip will be a mix of interstate and one lane roads so could get boring between the rewards of the mountain passes.
