I know this route very well, I however, prefer coming from the other end, stoping at the cafe over the bridge (Bosworths), I went to school with the lady, then back over the bridge follow the road ahead towards Braintree, Via weatherfield so you have a large loop depending where your coming from.
this can be joined with Haverhill route, down to Finchingfield.
or carry over bridge past cafe follow on to cambridgeshire, go to wards Rdwinter, home of Hideout (handmade leathers), & visit some of Cambridge

A fast bit of road although the road surface isn't great at points so it doesn't mean it's sensible to go fast all the time! Some good corners in there and not too busy meaning you can have some fun. Agree with the comment re: continuing on to Braintree. It's basically more of the same (no bad thing!) although there are a few areas with a 40mph speed limit and the occasional police presence.

Agree whole heartedly with the other comments. If you're in this area, even in a dirty car, give it a try!

I concur with the Steeple Bumpstead element, which I've done on a Mille and a GS1150, both in satisfying if somewhat different modes. The only problem I found was gravel scattered on corners and a bit of farmer's muck. Also the road up the hill from Finchingfield and on to Braintree is worth a pop.

This road is good and fast with some sections of complex corners, the best as said are around Little Sampford. If is a known haunt for bikers (stopping for coffee at Finchingfield) and therefore attracts a police presence, but not too heavy and usually only in the villages. All the roads in the Finchingfield area are up to this standard (twisties in the countryside) and some are even better. If you want to make a longer, or circular, ride out of it I suggest that, from Finchingfield, go over the hump-back bridge in the centre of the village and then take the first left, out of the village, at the crest of the hill take the road that goes left, towards Steeple Bumpstead. This is a road, which some Advanced Riding Instructors use for observing their pupil's cornering/observation skills. It's excellent, more open and more twisty! Enjoy.

A mixture of slow villages and some really nice country riding. Surface can be a little bumpy and visibility not so great in places but there are a few really nice corners on this route. The decent sections are around Little Sampford.
